Biography

Esam Abou-El Magd

Author, non-fiction editor and travel journalist · Fehmarn, Baltic Sea

Esam Abou-El Magd, born in Hamburg, is the son of an Egyptian doctor and a paediatric nurse from Fehmarn, and grew up on the Baltic coast. He studied economics on a dual programme with the Otto Group, then philosophy, psychology and Scandinavian studies, completing his degree with a study of Friedrich Nietzsche that was widely noted. Alongside his literary work he is a non-fiction editor and travel journalist.

In 2026 he published his first novel, “Das Ende der Träume ist aller Anfang”, supported by the Hauptstadtkulturfonds. In parallel he writes flash fiction at a steady pace: intense narratives of between 600 and 1,300 words for the impatient spirit of our time. A selection of around thirty of these very short stories is planned for late 2027 or 2028. The author lives on the island of Fehmarn.
